The more you know the techniques, the easier it is to listen to a song and say "Hey, that's a simple drop thumb pattern" and just start playing along until you find it. I myself enjoy folk punk banjo a bit more than the traditional songs, but those are where I got my start and I still go back to them. As much as you're not engaged by the traditional songs, they really do help. Unfortunately there really aren't many resources for folk punk tabs. The guitar tabs are fine for chords, but I am ideally looking for something with strumming patterns, etc.Īnyone have any tips on where I can find this kind of stuff? Thanks in advance, everyone - Hope to be hanging out here a lot in the future! I find some stuff here and there, but (for obvious reasons) the vast majority of this stuff I've found is for guitar. The problem I'm running into is that I really can't find any central location for punk/folk-punk banjo tabs and chords. Shocker: It's more fun to learn when you're learning to play songs you actually like. So I've been learning to play by covering some simple folk-punk songs, and I've found it a great tool to keep me motivated and enjoying myself as I struggle to make even the most basic chord changes, work on rolls, etc.
I've fallen in love with the instrument, but (this may be blasphemous on these boards), I'm not really all that engaged by more traditional banjo songs. I first got interested in playing banjo because I love folk-punk music (think Andrew Jackson Jihad, O'Death, etc). I'm really new to banjo (been playing "seriously" for about three months) and I'm hoping I can get some advice.
